Lamine Talakela, works on digital transformation, innovation, strategic content. His company is called consulting time. We had the pleasure to welcome him on April 8 in Startup SAFARI Virtual Experience, on the Scale stage to talk about Incubastreet.

Here is a summary of his passage. But you can watch the video by clicking on the link at the bottom of the article.

IncubaStreet

Incubastreet is in an associative format with 5 entrepreneurial founders. They want to help young and even not so young people to create their projects in any field. IncubaStreet helps people with projects who have been told no because the project is not innovative enough. It helps them move from the idea stage to something more structured, ready to launch. It also helps them to make the transition to the existing systems on the territory.

Their mission is to participate in the emergence of talents and help all motivated people to launch their project, whatever the age, but especially with a young project in a sense of first mission. IncubaStreet works on digital, industry, social and solidarity economy, but also all other sectors.

Today, IncubaStreet has chosen a three-month coaching format to structure its project with speakers who are entrepreneurs. Each project leader is accompanied by an incubator and a mentor.

The elementary

Lamine believes that a company generally has two purposes: to capture value and to create value. The company can create value and add value to other people and at the same time it must be useful.

The simplest method is to set SMART goals that work on 4 basic elements.

The first element is passion, the short and medium term benefits of which are motivation, self-confidence and a positive attitude.

Discipline is the second basic element, which aims at taking action, having goals and above all being perseverant and working on them by always going forward and never giving up.

The third element is skills, which allow one to reach a certain level of expertise, to acquire responsibility in the medium term and to be in continuous training over the long term.

And finally, interpersonal relationships, otherwise known as networking, which allow for integrity while expanding one’s circles of influence.

All this allows you to have a client at first, then a second and a third and so on. We accumulate experience and we value it. The fact of valuing it teaches us to communicate or rather to improve our communication methods. This way, we can be proactive when things go wrong with a client. In other words, we must not put all our eggs in the same basket.

It is also essential to question oneself in order to measure oneself against others, without any complex. And here we are talking about competition, good competition that allows you to evolve and move forward. It is obvious that each one is unique, that each one has his method, and that each one has his way of doing things. That’s why you have to be comfortable with asking questions and measuring yourself against others.

Expanding internationally

To undertake internationally, you must know why you want to invest in this market. You have to set up a strategy for your project. It is also necessary to make a SWOT matrix to deepen its analysis of opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses.

An analysis of the local market is also important. It is necessary to know why you want to do business. Profitability is not the only goal. You have to know if your business is adapted to this market or not. Keeping in mind that there are certain local habits that cannot be changed. It is up to the entrepreneur to be flexible and to adapt to these consumption habits.

The tax and legal aspects are the most important point. That’s why before starting your project you should ask yourself some questions:

Do I have the right as an entrepreneur to create this structure in this country?

To be a tenant or owner?

What are the specific conditions?

Are there any specific tax rates?

Is there a partner who allows me to work with him to facilitate my work?

All this must be taken into account well in advance when thinking about developing internationally. Without forgetting the means that can be put in place such as human resources, local and international partners, the logistics planned, the technology to be used, the possibility or not of operating remotely…

You can have the idea but you can’t always have the method. It is therefore necessary to know all this before starting a business in order to better structure your project. That’s why incubators exist. They accompany us in the method because they have experience in the field.

Incubation

There are several concepts of incubators, and third places of innovation just like coworking concepts, all over the world. And from one coworking to another, we can find different methods. In his opinion, the incubator has a clear and precise vocation: it must allow people to structure their project. That is to say, to go from the idea to the action. That’s why, before going to an incubator, you have to know who it’s for and what kind of support it offers.

There are incubators of all kinds. There are some dedicated to sports or finTech. There are paid and less expensive ones, even “free” ones. International and national ones. How do you choose? We want to be your scout. The purpose of this article is to give you a clear opinion of the types of incubators. I am sure you would want to know the personality of your partner before you marry her or him. We are going to draw up a portrait of your suitors.

What is an Incubator ?

An incubator is a support structure for projects and companies. In an incubator, your idea comes out of your mind and comes to life in the real world. The incubator accommodates, advises, trains and connects project leaders with the actors necessary for the growth of their project.

But there are several kinds of incubators. We distinguish generic incubators from sectorial incubators. These are the ways in which incubators welcome startups. And within these two families, there are public, corporate and school incubators.

[table id=1 /]

For example, there may be a generic corporate incubator, or a sectoral school incubator.

Generic Incubators

What matters to them is that the startup is a good project that makes sense. It’s their potential for realization, the project holders and their ability to carry out their project that interests them. They are looking for relevance.

The advantages of these incubators is their diversity. You are immersed in a world where you can meet people from different backgrounds and fields.

The disadvantage is that these structures are looking for highly disruptive projects, which makes it difficult to access to the less disruptive but equally relevant projects.

Sectorial Incubators

Sectoral incubators have the same selection criteria as generics. But to that it adds the criteria of the sector. These ones, only welcome startups in their sector of specialization.

The advantages lies in the accompaniment which will be done in a more precise way. You will be accompanied on the marketing but also on the technicality of your project. In these types of incubators, the fablab or the workshop to set up a model of the project are already integrated.

Public Incubators

Public incubators are open to all. They are self-financed by their owner but they can also be financed by the state. Their characteristic is that they have no link with a particular company or they do not host according to a particular education of the project leaders.

Corporate Incubators

They are created by companies and recruit startups in their sector of activity. By incubating these startups, the company builds partnerships. It is a strategie of the company to keep an eye on its sector. It is also to bring the startups to fill a technological or innovation gap in the sector.

School Incubators

School incubators are created by schools of higher education. They are intended for student entrepreneurs who during their studies want to create a startup or are project leaders.

How to choose your incubator

Now that you know your suitors, you have to make a choice. You can choose according to the following criteria:

The nature of your project will help you make your choice between a generic or sectoral incubator. If you are developing an application for healthcare professionals, it will be preferable to go to an incubator that has made it its specialty.

Price is undoubtedly the selection criterion not to be missed as incubators are not free. Those who offer free incubation take in exchange a minority share of your startup.

The network will guarantee the quality of your incubator. Seek to ensure the expertise of the members of its network and its influence in the sphere of the startup.
